ICE Detained 75,000 Individuals Without Criminal History in First Nine Months of Trump Administration

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained more than 75,000 individuals without a criminal record in immigration raids during the first nine months of the Trump administration, according to a report released this Sunday by NBC News.
The network cites data from the University of California, Berkeley's 'Deportation Data Project', which were obtained through a lawsuit filed by the institution against ICE and originate from an internal office within the agency responsible for arrest, detention, and deportation statistics.
These 75,000 detainees without a criminal history, arrested between January 20 and October 15, account for more than one-third of the total 220,000 individuals detained in immigration operations deployed by the Trump government, which were ostensibly targeted at the most violent criminals.
The figures do not include detention data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), which has conducted raids in major cities such as Los Angeles this year, the report indicates, suggesting the number of detainees without a criminal record is even higher.
Furthermore, it notes that in the case of detainees with criminal records, the data compiled by ICE does not differentiate between individuals who have committed minor infractions and those who have committed serious crimes, such as murder or rape.
Breakdown of Detainee Demographics
According to details from the 'Deportation Data Project' data, nearly 90 percent of the total individuals detained by ICE through mid-October were men. The most common nationality was Mexican, followed by Guatemalan and Honduran.
It is unclear how many of the detainees have been deported, but almost 23,000 are listed in a category of voluntary departure, the report adds.
