The Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Doreen Bogdan-Martin, met with Cuba's Vice Minister of Communications, Ailyn Febles, a diplomatic source from the island nation reported.

Meeting on the Sidelines of World Conference

The encounter took place on the sidelines of the World Telecommunication Development Conference, which has been underway since November 17 in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, as noted by Cuban Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Carlos Valdés. During the meeting, both the Cuban Vice Minister of Communications and Bogdan-Martin highlighted the positive state of relations and confirmed a shared willingness to continue strengthening collaboration.

The Secretary-General also expressed interest in learning about Cuba's progress in the field of Artificial Intelligence and highlighted the support and active participation of Cuba as a Member State of the Union, the diplomat detailed to Prensa Latina.

Focus on Regional and Digital Development

The ongoing conference is organized by the ITU and hosted by the government of Azerbaijan, with the goal of defining regional priorities and initiatives for the next four years for the Union's Telecommunication Development Sector. Furthermore, the digital development needs of the least developed countries, landlocked developing countries, and small island developing states will be addressed.

In a separate meeting as part of her working agenda, Vice Minister Febles also met with the Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau, Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, where she conveyed her country's readiness to continue deepening collaboration with the organization.
