Vicente de la O Levy, Minister of Energy and Mines, assured today that the crews of power line technicians who will undertake recovery efforts after Hurricane Melissa passes through eastern Cuba are already prepared.

In his message on the social media platform X, the minister added that "commitment and bravery, no one can block these."

According to the Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology (Insmet), Hurricane Melissa is expected to begin approaching the national territory from Tuesday, via the seas south of Cuba's eastern region.

This system currently has maximum sustained winds of 260 kilometers per hour, with higher gusts, making it a category five hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale.

The Cuban National Civil Defense Staff decreed the Cyclone Alert Phase this Saturday for the eastern provinces and Camagüey.
