Shots and Explosions Reported in Munich

A major police operation was launched in the early hours of Wednesday in the German city of Munich, with firefighters, special units, and explosive-ordnance disposal experts mobilized to the scene.

The deployment follows reports of several explosions and gunfire in the affected area, according to Bild, which further states that at least one person has been killed and another wounded by gunshots in the incident.

“Currently, we are working together with the fire department on an incident in the Lerchenau area. Significant traffic disruptions are occurring. Please avoid the area,” the Munich Police announced.

The precise circumstances remain unclear. According to initial media reports, a man allegedly triggered an explosion in his parents’ home, set the property on fire, and then took his own life. From a distance, onlookers observed a large plume of smoke rising from the scene.
