The National Ballet of Cuba (BNC) will perform on Saturday for the first time in Denmark, a country with a long tradition in this art and its own school, the third oldest in the world.
Although several Cuban dancers, including leading figures from the BNC, have performed in this European nation, the company has never showcased its art in this country, whose academy has become one of the benchmarks for the Cuban ballet school.
The emblematic Royal Theatre in Copenhagen will host this Saturday a performance of the classic “Don Quijote” (Don Quixote), a work used in competitions around the world, in multiple versions and formats.
BNC’s first dancers, Anette Delgado and Dani Hernandez, will showcase their talent in the roles of Kitri and Basilio, in a plot of love and jealousy.
Gabriela Druyet and Anyelo Montero (in a morning performance) and Grettel Morejon and Yankiel Vazquez (in a regular afternoon performance), under the direction of Viengsay Valdes, will take turns in the lead roles on Sunday.
The BNC is showing an adaptation of the classic piece performed by Cuban dancers and teachers Marta Garcia, Maria Elena Llorente, and Karemia Moreno, demanding great virtuosity.
