Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, Cuba’s Minister of Transport, praised today on his Facebook page the honesty and human commitment of bus operators on Route 11 in Havana.

In his post, the minister highlighted the actions of Janier Fernández Delgado, driver of Gazelle 637 on Route 11 (Diezmero–La Ceguera), and conductor Yosvany Guerra Rodríguez, who returned a wallet lost by a passenger, reaffirming that ethical values remain alive in the profession.

The incident was first shared by user Lucy González in the Facebook group “Transportación Habana TH,” where she publicly thanked the workers for returning her belongings, which included personal documents, bank cards, and the only cash she had.

“Thanks to them for their kind gesture, an act that shows there are still honest people in our Cuba,” González wrote.

Recovery of the Lost Wallet

According to Janier Fernández, as recounted to Desafío, Lucy had exited the vehicle near Miguel Enríquez Hospital without realizing she had left her wallet on the seat. Another passenger attempted to take the wallet, but the driver intercepted the individual at the end of the route in Diezmero, San Miguel del Padrón. With the assistance of an officer from the Ministry of the Interior, the wallet was recovered and returned to its rightful owner.

Rodríguez Dávila noted that the Taxi Agency protocol was followed: the item was presented to the agency’s management, investigated, and then returned to the owner, in this case delivered directly to her home.

For both workers, the minister emphasized, the act was not exceptional but part of a professional ethic they consider essential. “Everything left in the vehicle is returned. That’s something we take for granted,” Janier said, as quoted in the report.

Official Recognition

The Ministry of Transport has highlighted this gesture as an example of professional and human conduct, in line with the principles governing public service in Cuba.
