Venezuela’s Vice President Reaffirms National Mobilization in Defense of Sovereignty

Venezuelan Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, who on Saturday, August 23, oversaw the Great Enlistment and Call to the Ranks of the Bolivarian Militia, reaffirmed the popular will to respond on all fronts in defense of national sovereignty against what she described as interventionist attempts by the United States government.
Rodríguez praised the patriotic response of Venezuelans as a demonstration of their commitment to the right of self-determination and independence, a legacy of the country’s independence leaders. “We have seen a mobilization across factories, production centers and ministries,” she said.
She referred to what she called a “pathetic show” by the Trump administration, asserting that it had been met with strong support for the Bolivarian process and for President Nicolás Maduro.
The vice president emphasized the presence of workers in the enlistment drive. “The strength of the workers accompanied and responded to Maduro’s call, deeply feeling Venezuela, feeling the need to defend our history, our historic legacy, and the feat of our liberators in leaving us a free and independent country,” she declared.
Rodríguez added that this was not the first time Venezuela had defended peace. “If Venezuelans have learned anything since Commander Hugo Chávez came to power with the people, it is to defend peace and calm in the face of coup attempts, oil sabotage, electrical sabotage, assassination plots and fascist violence,” she affirmed. She noted that defending independence is a daily task, not one confined to events of 200 years ago.
