From July 31 to August 3, Havana will host screenings of Russian films organized by Roskino and the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC), Prensa Latina learned today.

According to Roskino’s communications specialist, Svetlana Kabanova, free public screenings will take place on July 31 at Havana’s Acapulco Theater, featuring the family comedy Both of Us and the animated feature Luntik: The Return Home (in Russian with Spanish subtitles).

From August 1 to 3, several films will be shown at the Russian Embassy in Cuba’s cinema hall.

In addition to Roskino and ICAIC, the event is supported by the Russian Ministry of Culture and the Russian Embassy in Cuba.

Both of Us (2024), directed by Vladimir Kott, is a comedy about Glasha, a bold 14-year-old girl, and her romantic aunt, Anna. A seemingly simple story that proves far deeper than it first appears. By fate’s design, these two very different women embark on a journey together, leading not only to a series of funny and touching situations but also to a chance to better understand each other and discover their true selves.

This heartwarming family comedy explores how different generations can find common ground despite their differences and is expected to captivate Cuban audiences.

Meanwhile, the animated film Luntik: The Return Home (2024), directed by Konstantin Bronzit, tells the story of Luntik, a small, furry creature born on the Moon who falls to Earth and now sets out to find his mother. His loyal friends join him on this thrilling adventure.

In 2025, the film won the prestigious Nika Award for Best Animated Feature and became Russia’s highest-grossing domestic animated film in 2024. Today, Russian animation enjoys significant popularity in international markets, and Cuban filmmakers have expressed interest in establishing collaborations in this field.

The big-screen screening of this Russian animated hit presents an excellent opportunity for Havana residents and visitors to experience the creativity of Russian animators.

Olga Lyubimova, Russia’s Minister of Culture, stated that Russian-Cuban cinematic cooperation is currently at a high point.

Roskino’s Director General, Elza Antonova, emphasized that packed theaters during screenings of Cuban films in Russia and Russian films in Cuba confirm the importance of strengthening collaboration with ICAIC and continuing to promote cultural and professional exchange.
