Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel announced today that on August 13, a formal call will be issued to commemorate the centenary of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, not only to reflect on his legacy but to bring it into the present day.
Concluding his visit to the central province of Villa Clara, the Cuban leader emphasized that many achievements in the region were initiated by Fidel Castro. “Recovering and updating them is the best tribute we can offer,” he stated.
“We will not surrender here. We will overcome the blockade, even as it intensifies. But we must overcome it with thought, intelligence, and hard work,” said Díaz-Canel, who also serves as First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba.
The president stressed the need to strengthen local production systems to ensure that revenues can cover social expenditures.
“The municipality of Ranchuelo, for example, has vast agricultural land that can support food sovereignty. There are positive examples. With increased agricultural production, food service improves along with retail trade,” he argued.
Díaz-Canel praised the work of young paint producer Kelvin Alonso and livestock farmer Narciso Ramón Ramírez, who in just six months has tripled his cattle herd without any birthing fatalities.
Susely Morfa, First Secretary of the Communist Party in Villa Clara, outlined the region’s work projections for the second half of 2025.
“Priority attention to youth, engagement with young people, visits to historic sites and locations associated with Fidel, and a values-based program centered on Commander Ernesto Che Guevara are key goals for the people of Villa Clara,” she stated.
Morfa also highlighted the need to reduce the number of unprofitable state enterprises and to project a decrease in the fiscal deficit across all municipalities.
Díaz-Canel was accompanied throughout his visit to the central Cuban province by Roberto Morales, Organizational Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba.
