The electoral campaign ahead of Venezuela’s July 27 municipal elections concludes today, 48 hours before more than 21 million registered voters are expected to head to the polls to elect mayors and municipal councilors.

Candidates from both the ruling party and the diverse opposition had 14 days to present their platforms and initiatives across the country’s 335 municipalities.

The ruling coalition, known as the Great Patriotic Pole Simón Bolívar (GPPsb), carried out an intense campaign under the slogan "People Who Get Things Done," with active participation from recently elected governors. The GPPsb won 23 out of 24 governorships in the May 25 regional elections.

The National Electoral Council scheduled the campaign period from July 11 to 24, during which 53 political organizations took part. These included 36 national parties, 10 regional parties, three national Indigenous organizations, and four regional Indigenous groups.

In his weekly television program Con el Mazo Dando, United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) Secretary General Diosdado Cabello described the GPPsb’s campaign as “a very beautiful campaign in every municipality and electoral district.”

Jorge Rodríguez, head of the Unified Command of the Venezuelan Revolution, stated earlier this week that the campaign was carried out directly with the people. He emphasized that GPPsb candidates walked the streets, visited homes, and engaged in dialogue with residents to better understand their needs and challenges, while also discussing their aspirations.

Revolutionary and pro-Chávez forces have set a goal of winning in all 335 municipalities. Currently, 105 of these are governed by various opposition groups.

President Nicolás Maduro called on citizens to participate actively in the municipal elections. For the first time, young voters will also have the opportunity to vote on their development projects as part of the third National Popular Youth Consultation.

Maduro stressed the significance of these elections as a means to strengthen local governance. He also highlighted the importance of the youth consultation in shaping the country's future and guiding youth-focused policies.

On Sunday, the electoral process will involve 15,731 voting centers and 20,410 voting tables, of which 15,936 will be designated for youth voting.

In total, 2,806 positions will be filled, including 335 mayors and 2,471 municipal councilors.
