Calls Renewed in Argentina for Release of Peronist Activists

The Argentine political organization La Cámpora has demanded the immediate release of Peronist activists Eva Mieri and Alexia Abaigar, stating they are hostages of political and judicial power.

In a statement shared on its social media platforms, La Cámpora reiterated its denunciation of the imprisonment of Mieri and the house arrest of Abaigar, framing both as part of a broader political and judicial campaign against Peronist activism.

Eva Mieri serves as a city councilor in Quilmes, Buenos Aires Province, while Alexia Abaigar is an official with the Ministry of Women and Diversity in the provincial government based in La Plata.

“Eva Mieri is being held at the Ezeiza prison, and Alexia Abaigar is still at home wearing an ankle monitor. Both have been detained for more than 10 days for allegedly defacing the sidewalk of a national deputy who openly advocates for ‘jail or bullets’ for those who think differently,” the organization said, referring to José Luis Espert, a lawmaker from La Libertad Avanza.

The statement directly accuses President Javier Milei, Security Minister Patricia Bullrich, and Judge Sandra Arroyo Salgado of orchestrating the arrests.

“Eva and Alexia are hostages of Milei the fraud, the gun-slinging failure Patricia Bullrich, and Arroyo Salgado, the judge employed by the mafias,” La Cámpora declared.

The organization further linked the detentions to what it describes as ongoing persecution and political exclusion of former President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.

The statement calls for the immediate release of Mieri and Abaigar, asserting they are “political prisoners for being women and Peronists, imprisoned by the same powers that persecuted, banned, and convicted Cristina.” The post concluded with the hashtag #CristinaLibre.
