Nomination of Cuban doctors for Nobel Prize finds support in Brazil

Brasilia, Jan 30 (Prensa Latina) The Brazilian deputy Valmir Assunção sent a request to the Nobel Prize Committee supporting the nomination of the Cuban contingent of doctors Henry Reeve for the Peace Prize.

'It will be our retribution for a demonstration of love. A unique contribution to society around the world. (...) it was created in September 2005 by Fidel Castro,' said Assunção, a member of parliament for the Workers' Party in the state of Bahia.

According to the Da Chapada newspaper, the letter was addressed to the board with the arguments and data of the Cuban medical contingent, which has been active for 15 years throughout the world.

The Henry Reeve (medical brigade) 'carries out a fundamental work of effective cooperation and helps populations victims of epidemics, pandemics and natural disasters. Currently, there are more than 20 teams in different countries that are in the courageous fight against Covid-19,' the congressman explained.

For Assunção, Cuban doctors are true international heroes inspired by the principle of solidarity between peoples and for that reason they deserve the Nobel Peace Prize.

He noted that the brigades save thousands of lives in countries devastated by earthquakes, hurricanes and epidemics in different regions of Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean and Asia.
