Cuba Heads Latin America and the Caribbean at 2010 IAAF World Junior Track and Field Championship

Cuba headed Latin America and the Caribbean in the 2010 IAAF World Junior Track and Field Championships that concluded on Monday in Canada.

The Cuban delegation accumulated three gold and one silver medal, to occupy the fourth place; followed by Jamaica, in the tenth (1-1-1), and Brazil in the 20th (1-0-0).

In the qualification by points, the Cuban athletes also occupied the best place of Latin America, the 10th with 43 points.
Kenya concluded at the top of the medal table ahead of the United States.

Both Kenya and the United States won 15 medals, but the Africans won seven golds, one more than the Americans; while Russia concluded in the third position.

The United States added three titles in the last day of competition (men’s hammer throw and the men’s and women’s relays 4x400), but it was not enough because Kenya won two more (men’s 800 and 3,000 meters with obstacles).

In the qualification by positions, the United States concluded with 183 points, much ahead than Kenya (119).

In the last day of competition, Montenegro won its first gold medal in a track and field event thanks to the triumph of Marija Vukovic in women’s high jump with 1.91 meters.
