Ecuatorians Demand Fredoom for Cuban Five
Participants in the event held on Saturday in Quito to celebrate the anniversary of the attack on the Moncada Barracks in Cuba on July 26, 1953, considered the event that launched the Cuban Revolution, demanded the release of five Cubans imprisoned in the United States.
Hundreds of people, including politicians, intellectuals, members of solidarity with Cuba groups and Ecuadorian youths studying in Cuba, chanted slogans in favor of the Cuban Five, who fester in US prisons for more than 12 years for their anti-terrorist activity.
During the ceremony, Hernan Rivademeira, president of the Committee to Free the Cuban Five, called for an intensification of the campaign for their release under the new international campaign to be begin in September.
Jaime Galarza, chairman of the House of Culture, awarded Cuban ambassador to Ecuador, Benigno Perez, a medal of distinction for his outstanding work promoting cultural exchange and friendship between the two countries
Perez expressed gratitude for the recognition and recalled the odyssey of the assault on Moncada Barracks, which marked the beginning of the Revolution and freedom for Cuba from foreign oppression.
