Homage to July 26th Heroine Haydee Santamaria
As part of the commemorations for the 57th anniversary of the attacks on the Carlos Manuel de Cespedes and Moncada Garrisons, the municipality of Encrucijada located in Villa Clara province will pay homage to Haydee Santamaria, one of the heroines of that historic date.
According to the Vanguardia website, a colloquium will be held on July 28th where participants will exchange on the childhood of Yeyé as Haydee was called when a child, and later in life.
The Cuban revolutionary, who participated in the attack against the Moncada Garrison, clandestine struggle and the combats in the Sierra Maestra Mountain Range is an example for new generations.
Haydee lost at that time, many valuable and dear friends. She lost her brother Abel (whose eyes were ripped off by the Batista tyranny) and her boyfriend Boris; she continued forward with the pain of tortures and assassination of comrades that were loyal in defending social justice despite the dangers of losing their lives.
Haydee Santamaria Cuadrado (1922-1980) believed that participating in the attack against the Moncada Garrison in Santiago de Cuba on July 26th, 1953 changed the way she looked at life.
