World Underwater Photography Event in Cuba

The second edition of the underwater photography FOTOSUB Colony 2010 starts Monday in this Cuban southwestern region, with the attendance of 36 competitors from seven nations.

This contest bears the name of the Colony Hotel that attracts participants worldwide. This facility is famous since the 1960's for welcoming those interested in marine activities.

Deborah Andollo, president of the Cuban Federation of Underwater Activities (FCAS), stated that this place will host a world event on this specialty in 2013.

This event will be the end of an extensive program of competitions and meetings, including a second underwater photo contest from February 15 to 20, Andollo said.    The Colony Hotel and Punta Frances, the venues of the contest, are also among the favorite places of FOTOSUB organizers. This event is held for a second consecutive year, convened by the Tourism Ministry and co-sponsored by the Gran Caribe hotel chain and Marlin Marinas, among other resorts.

Cuba is a member of the World Confederation of Underwater Activities since 1967, when it organized the World Championship of Underwater Fishing in Cayo Avalos, in the nation's southwest zone. The FCAS was institutionalized in July 2006 at a local level.
